We will be having a Drop Everything And Read day on Friday!!! Your child can wear pajamas to school, but please still send coats and tennis shoes because we will more than likely still be going out for recess. They may also bring a blanket/ sleeping bag, pillow, or stuffed animal. Many times the kids like to bring books from home to read throughout the day which is great, but PLEASE make sure you write their name in it. We would love to have a few guest readers throughout the day. The following times are available: 8:20, 11:30, and 1:20. Send me an e-mail if you would like to read 🙂 It will be a fun day to celebrate our love of reading at VPE!!!
Don’t forget our Valentine’s Day party is Thursday at 1pm! Your child can bring their valentine cards in that day to give to their friends. For the party, we have divided up the class list by last name so please send in food with your child on the 14th.
A – E Salty (Chips, pretzels, crackers)
F – P Fruits/Veggies (Apple slices, carrots, celery, cucumber, grape tomatoes, grapes, berries)
Q – Z Savory (Cheese, pepperoni, pigs in blankets, cubes of turkey or ham)
**Just a reminder, our class is nut free!
We will need parents to help with the party so feel free to join us during the party time! We will be making a special class Valentine to say thanks to our great VPE cafeteria staff, we will play a Valentine game, decorate your own cookie fun, and have goodie bags!
We are in the middle of a new and exciting unit on WEATHER!!! We have been working on a variety of literacy skills (comparing and contrasting/ asking and answering questions) through our study on this interesting topic. We are also working on researching topics to use for an informational writing piece. Ask your child what type of weather they are researching!
On Friday, we will have Chris Bailey, a local meterologist, here to talk with us. I told the kids to try to catch him on the news before he comes Friday. He is on WKYT channel 27! Hope you get a chance to check it out!!!
We will be decorating valentine boxes next week! If you could send in an empty cereal box with your child this week, that would be a big help!!! The bigger the box the better 🙂 You will get a list of names to prepare valentine cards tomorrow. Can’t wait to celebrate at our party on the 14th!
We are reading a mystery this month! Our book is Cam Jansen and the Valentine Baby Mystery by David Adler. It is available at the public library and on amazon.com for $3.99. I have a few copies I can loan out too- just let me know if you need one. First come, first serve! We will meet after school on Monday, February 25th.
