We are moving right along in math!  I wanted to update you on what we have been working on and where we are going next.  As I tell the kids, we are starting off with smaller number to get a thorough understanding of strategies and concepts and then we will move our way into higher numbers.  In our addition and subtraction to 10 unit, we worked on counting up and counting back to solve addition and subtraction problems.  We also worked on quick recall of facts.  I would like them to be able to quickly find the answers to these problems without having to use their fingers.  Story problems are another skill we focused on.  We practiced solving many problems using a variety of strategies including drawing pictures, using a number line, and writing number sentences.  These strategies are building the foundation for them to solve more difficult word problems.  Finding missing addends in both subtraction and addition sentences were also covered in these units.  Some examples of these problems are 2+___=10, ____-5=4, or _____-6=4.  Another tricky skill that we covered was balancing equations- 8-4= 10- ____.  Yes- like algebra!  It is amazing the things that these kiddos can do!

We are currently working in a geometry unit.  We will cover 2D shapes, 3D shapes, and fractions!
